Over time the problem may infect other previously healthy toes and fingers – often resulting in painful ridged greenish-white nails. If left untreated, this unsightly infection may eventually destroy the nail.
At York Laser Aesthetics our NdYag1064 laser is an effective treatment for fungal nail infection – helping to prevent its spreading further. Several treatment sessions are needed at 3 to 4 week intervals.
You may need to consider a few changes yourself to reduce the risk of reinfection. Such as replacing socks, tights as well as some footwear. A treatment programme will be discussed fully at your first appointment.
About Fungal Nail
Fungal Nail (Onychomycosis) is usually spread from a fungal skin infection like Athlete’s Foot. Sharing footwear or socks can spread the infection as can wearing no footwear in public places, such as swimming pools, locker rooms, fitness classes etc. A fingernail fungal infection can occur after a toenail infection has become established for example by scratching itchy toes. There is an increased risk if you have diabetes, psoriasis, or a poor immune system.
